Entertainment Crossovers - Movies go to Gaming
It is not a new concept to create video games based on movies. In fact, the two industries have been working hand in hand for more than twenty years. But, with the creation and release of the "Big Three" next generation consoles, video games based on movies have come a long way from that old ET game released for the Atari 2600. In modern times, video games are more realistic, more engrossing, more detailed, and much longer. The leaps and bounds in technology have made it even easier to create video games based on our favorite movies. From the very beginning, the Nintendo Wii has been considered the "lightweight" of the new consoles. Created to be more user friendly and to appeal to people of all ages, gamers and non-gamers alike, the Wii has gained a huge following. However, with popularity comes criticism, and many people feel that true gamers' games are not available for the Wii. But, this is not true, and as time goes by, more and more in-depth and highly detailed Wii games hit the market, and the Nintendo Wii remains a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment and gaming industry.
Two games released for the Wii and based on movies are a conglomeration of a detailed storyline and a play on children's toys. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga and Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures have both been hits as Wii games. Following the storyline of the six movie powerhouse, Lego Star Wars combines the intricate world created many years ago with fun and visually enticing graphics. With over 160 characters available, and thought provoking building puzzles provided, Lego Star Wars will make the player feel like they are a part of the movies. Lego Indiana Jones is based on the three original movies: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and the Last Crusade. A fun combination of action and puzzles, this game immerses the gamer in the unique world of Indie. Both of these games make use of the Nintendo Wii's special motion controller, even making the gamer further involved in the experience.
Though the graphics and the use of Legos could be considered cutesy, the two Wii games draw so intricately on the movies that even the most serious gamer will soon find themselves engrossed in the game. Wii games have become popular to consumers of all age demographics, making the system a perfect jumping off point for games based on movies. It can be the perfect marketing tool for both the movie and the gaming industry.
